  • Description

*Church ring

globular shape with a wide neck ending in flat lips. It is incised and modeled in relief with rich decoration, featuring spider monkeys with humanized features and interlacing engraved ancestral symbols. The simian figures are very beautiful. The artist has imagined these animals with long, moving limbs. The monkeys seem to move gracefully in their natural habitat. Brown and orange terracotta, age marks, a few root marks and small surface chips, good overall condition. Marajó Island, Brazil, Sub-Andean farming group, Marajoara phase, AD 400-1400 31 x 30.5 x 23.6 cm Provenance: former Yvon Collet collection, 1969. Collection Galerie Mermoz, 2002
