It features the face of a dignitary in the prime of life, marked by meticulously engraved and balanced scarification marks covering the entire face. His hieratic expression is accentuated by half-open eyes and a moving mouth. Wood, pigment remains, marks of time, slightly broken-glued Mochica, Peru, 200-600 A.D. 19.2 x 14.5 x 6.5 cm Provenance: acquired by the current owner on June 13, 2007, Gaïa sale, lot 247. Former collection of Uruguayan diplomat Alvaro Guillot-Muñoz, built up from the 1930s, then the Gérald Berjonneau collection through family transmission.Sale ended
