CONTEMPORARY ART AUCTIONS

From post-war abstractions to the most contemporary works, the Post War & Contemporary Art department offers you expertise on 75 years of international creation.

Our team of auctioneers and specialists, renowned for the quality of their expertise and the selection of works presented in their auctions, has won the confidence of bidders and collectors since 2011, and has established itself as one of the major players in this market in Paris.

Ten live or indoor catalogued salesare held each year, featuring a selection ofworks from 1950 to the present day .

Each work offered is rigorously appraised, estimated, authenticated and guaranteed by the department's specialists, supported bythe artists, their committees and beneficiaries.

Our different contemporary art auction formats :

In order to sell at the best price and satisfy every buyer and seller, our auctions are held in several different formats:

  • Three annual " Post War & Contemporary Art " sales, each with its own catalogue, represent the great names in painting, sculpture, drawing, etc

  • The "Masters of Abstraction" sales bring together a range of abstract works from 1950 to 1980. Demand from our collectors is strong for works by artists such as Pierre Soulages, Zao Wou-Ki, Chu Teh-Chun Georges Mathieu, Serge Poliakoff, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Simon Hantaï, Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, Olivier Debré, Pierre Vasarely, André Lanskoy, Jean-Michel Atlan, Josef Sima, etc.

  • Contemporary African art is a fast-growing speciality. Since 2014, Millon has presented works by Chéri Samba, Pili Pili Mulonguoy, El Anatsui, Esther Mahlangu, Romual Hazoumé, Abdoulaye Konaté, William Kentridge, Pascal Marthine Tayou and John Goba.

  • A tribute to the great master, the "Pierre Soulages, l'Art de la gravure" sales have been a great success since April 2022. Etchings, lithographs and silkscreen prints are all on show.

  • Street Collector auctions feature Street Artists, including major international names such as Kaws, Banksy, Murakami, Invader, JR, Faile, Os Gemeos, El Seed, Futura2000, Jonone, Kenny Scharf and Shepard Fairey.

  • Contemporary Art auctions showcase major artists at affordable valuations. Ideal for art lovers, these auctions allow you to present your works in an attractive way, and are held online. They offer unlimited access to the catalogue and bids from the four corners of the world.

Do you own a priceless treasure? Millon and its Post-War and Contemporary department have also been running "So Unique" auctions since 2020. A unique, exceptional, rare work of great value is presented alone to bidders. In 2021, a painting by Domenico Gnoli sold for €8,040,000!

A passion for collecting, the common thread running through our auctions

At the heart of our Post-War and Contemporary Art auctions, collections are the focus of special attention, highlighting the tastes of collectors and enlightened connoisseurs. The catalogues lend themselves to the game by conveying the collector's spirit. The collection may bear the collector's name, or remain anonymous. In this way, we have presented for sale: the Dotremont collection in April 2012, the Jean-Louis Martinoty collection in March 2013, the Michèle and Claude Harel collection in 2017, the Mr F. collection in 2020, the Mr B. collection in 2021, and the Jacques-Jules Legillon collection in 2023.

These personalised sales are often "white glove" sales: 100% of the lots sold.

The department's sales also achieve excellent results, with more than 80% of lots sold at the best price.
