- Description
*Seated couple of dignitaries
the body painted for a ceremony. The man holds a receptacle in one hand and carries on his shoulder a chantepleure designed to collect pulqué (fermented alcohol made from agave pulp). The bare-chested woman presents her hands palms forward in a symbolic gesture of blessing. Their faces bear a slightly grimacing expression, indicating that they are probably under the effect of the beverage or a powerful hallucinogen. Polychrome terracotta, a few small chips, very slight fillings, marks of age, good overall condition.
