*Chaman seated
Magnificent seated shaman, his waist covered with a wide, incised belt. He wears a turtle-shell pendant on his chest. In one hand, he holds an instrument that he is about to throw dexterously at its target. His face displays a beautiful, concentrated expression, with a fixed gaze and a three-quarter-turned head. The broad sagittal crest attests to his status as a shaman. The posture and gestures of this figure are remarkable. Orange and coffee-red terra cotta, age marks, good overall condition. Restorations. Colima, Comala, Western Mexico 100 B.C. to 250 A.D. 37.5 x 30 x 20 cm Provenance: former Johanna Huguet collection, 1968 Bibliography: From Coast to Coast, Rijksmuseum Voor Volkenkunde, Leiden, 1993, p.114, f.144, for a very similar shaman. A thermoluminescence analysis from the QED laboratory will be sent to the buyer.Sale ended
