The luminous Orient of manuscripts
Three exceptional Persian and Indian illuminated manuscripts are at the heart of this sale at Drouot, which brings together three hundred Orientalist objects, books, sculptures and paintings, including a major work by Majorelle in his Africanist period, unknown at auction (Le Foulard pourpre, estimated at between €120,000 and €130,000).
Each of these three books is a marvel. A window on the Orient of dreams and epics. Miniatures at the crossroads of worlds in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. An invitation to travel through the narrative vigor of vividly colored illustrations as refined as a chiseled jewel. These documents (among some twenty in all, ranging from the 9th to the 19th century) come from a French collection assembled over the last thirty years.
