KUPKA (Frantisek) & ESCHYLE.
Prometheus. Translated from the Greek by Lucien Dhuys. Etchings and woodcuts by François Kupka. Paris, Blaizot, 1924. In-4 black chagrin, smooth spine, long vertical mosaic title in orange morocco, author, artist and date in gilt lettering at tail, ill. cover preserved, in slipcase with edges (D.-H. Mercher). 18 original etchings by Kupka, including 3 full-page + two-tone woodcuts on title page. Edition of 200 on Japon; no. 47 of 50 containing three states of the etchings: a suite of pure etchings, a suite with remarks and the state with the letter. One of Kupka's masterpieces of illustration, as he himself conceived the artist's book in his work "La Création dans les arts plastiques" (1913): '"The book is a true friend of man. When the proportions sing, when the balances are happy, when the white of the engravings sounds a soprano, supported by the bass alto of the typographic blacks, illustration thus understood is not unworthy of a great artist."Estimate
