In-4, brown half-chagrin with corners, four-ribbed spine decorated with Nordic-style garlands, author and title in silver lettering, central geometric decoration with silver vertical fillets and gilt squares, gilt fillet on covers, gilt head, illustrated cover and spine preserved (E. Quanonne, rel. Caen). Spine very slightly oiled. Illustrations by Kay Nielsen, including 24 color compositions, each with captioned serpente, and 33 black vignettes, lettrines and culs-de-lampe.
