Paris, Compagnie des libraires associés, 1773. 6 vol. in-8, green morocco, finely-ornamented ribbed spines, gilded fillets and roulette framing the boards, gilded roulette on the spines and chasses, gilt edges. This celebrated edition by Bret features a frontispiece portrait engraved by Cathelin after Mignard, 6 fleurons to the titles and 33 out-of-text figures engraved by the best artists of the period after Moreau. A very fine first-edition copy, complete with plates on pp. 66-67 and 80-81, in a superb imitation binding. (Cohen 716-719; Brunet III 1798-1799.) Ex-libris Raoul Baguenault de Puchesse.
