Paris, Par la Compagnie des Libraires Associés, 1773. 6 vol. in-8, blond calf, smooth spines richly decorated with grotesque decoration, title and greeen marbled boards, gilt roulette framing the boards, gilt edges (period binding). This celebrated edition, edited by Bret, features a frontispiece portrait engraved by Cathelin after Mignard, 6 title finials and 33 out-of-text figures engraved by the finest artists of the period after Moreau. A few small rubs, the head of volume III is missing, a few brown spots on the first few pages of volume IV, otherwise a fine copy in its first printing, complete with the plates on pp. 66-67 and 80-81.
