Les Misérables. Paris, Pagnerre, 1862. 10 volumes, large in-8, black half-chagrin, ribbed spine, gilded title and tomaison, initials M.D. on tail, gilded head (period binding). French first edition. ""From Les Misérables (1862) to the end of the Empire, Victor Hugo's original works were published simultaneously in Paris and Brussels, and I know from M. Paul Meurice that it is always the French edition that must be considered as the original edition, Victor Hugo only correcting the proofs of this edition."", Vicaire. Spine rubbed, foxing, otherwise a fine copy, one of the few printed on large Hollande paper. (Vicaire, IV, 328).
