Sophie Arnould from her correspondence and unpublished memoirs. Paris, G. Charpentier et Cie, 1885. In-8 lemon morocco, four-ribbed spine, gilt title, date on tail, gilt edges, gilt silk lining and endpapers, quadruple gilt fillet framing counterslips, covers and spine preserved, in edged slipcase (Franz). Spine a little darkened. First Charpentier edition (from the collection Les Actrices du XVIIIe siècle). The original edition was published by Poulet-Malassis in 1857. One of the few copies printed on China paper, enriched with an E.A.S. from Edmond de Goncourt to his friend Marie and a L.A.S. from Edmond de Goncourt to a friend, ½ page in-8, slnd ("[...] Here is a Sophie Arnould on China paper, the first volume of a series I will not finish [...]"). Engraved bookplate (by Devambez) of Emmanuel Lang (Vicaire III, 1033.)
