How do I buy at public auction?

A) INFORMATION

On our website, you will find a calendar of all forthcoming sales , both live and online.

Auction catalogues can be viewed online in PDF format, on the website or in hard copy.

If the auction catalogue you are interested in is not yet complete, you can register and be alerted by e-mail as soon as it goes online.

You can also use our search engine to search by keyword and receive e-mail alerts.

Finally, sign up for our Newsletters to keep up to date with key auction news.

B) SEE

In the auction information section, you will find the days and dates of the public auctions.

If you are unable to attend, the team organising the sale, whose contact details you will find, will be able to answer all your questions.

C) BIDDING

In the auction room, the rules are simple:

  • No prior registration is necessary*.

All you have to do is raise your hand and then make a clear sign or gesture to the auctioneer to indicate your intention (*except for certain lots subject to a deposit, in which case this information will be given to you in the description of the lot).

  • If someone else bids after you, it is up to you whether or not to continue your bid by bidding higher.

  • If no one bids higher than your bid, the auctioneer declares the long-awaited word "adjugé".

  • If you are already registered with the auctioneer, all you have to do is show your plaque or "Paddle" number.

  • If not, the "crieur" will come to you immediately to ask for identification and a means of payment.

  • From then on, the auctioneer's clerk will be waiting for you to register payment for your lots.

You can leave the auction room at any time.

Bidding LIVE

All our sales are broadcast live on the Internet.

If you are unable to come to the auction room, you can follow the sale "live" on the internet and bid live by registering on one of our partner platforms such as drouot.com or interenchereslive.com

As with the live auction, you will need to provide proof of identity and bank details beforehand.

Once you have registered on one of these sites, the auction manager will validate your participation.

On the day of the sale, you will see the auctioneer in action on your screen, as well as photos of the items as they are presented.

On our side of the room, an operator will relay your bid aloud.

These different live auction platforms will charge you a commission for this service (the amount is specified on their websites)

Bidding by telephone

If you do not have Internet access on the day, and only if your identity papers and bank details have been validated beforehand, you can ask to be called to bid by telephone.

All you have to do is register during the exhibition or send a written request to the auction manager.

Once your request has been approved, a member of the auction house's staff will telephone you a few minutes before the item you wish to bid on is due to go on sale.

Bidding with a purchase order

Our sales managers can write down your fixed purchase order with a maximum amount.

This can be a paper order, given during the exhibition before the sale, or an email sent directly to the department responsible for the sale. You can request a purchase order by registering on our websites.

Once your request has been validated by the sale manager, you will receive confirmation of your registration by email.

Purchase order documents are available from the art departments or sales managers and all our offices on request.
