Two angels forming a carved and polychromed... - Lot 221 - Millon
Two angels forming a carved and polychromed walnut pendant.
Sculpted in the round and showing polychrome remains, they probably held the instruments of the Passion of Christ, elements of which remain, notably the Column of the Flagellation. Dressed in fine drapes whose folds underline the contraposto of the bodies, the soft and low faces turned towards the ground, the elegance of the gestures, the wavy hair falling back on the shoulders, the whole is intended to be full of emotion and solemnity. These stylistic and emotional characteristics bring them closer to the works of the Burgundian circle of Claus Sluter and his nephew, Claus de Werve.
