Il a ensuite étudié en Iran et est devenu Cheikh al-Islam (chef religieux des musulmans iraniens) sous le souverain safavide Shah Abbas I (r.1587-1629) à Ispahan. Baha' al-Din Muhammad bin Husayn al-'Amili (1547-1622), was born in Ba'albek, Lebanon. He later studied in Iran and became Shaykh al-Islam (religious chief of the Iranian muslims) under the Safavid ruler Shah 'Abbas I (r.1587-1629) in Isfahan.
